this past Tuesday marked 37 years since I could listen to the song "Piece by Piece" by The Tubes without feeling an undesirable physical response. Up until the morning of April 12th, 1985 I had been drawing some pleasure from playing that 45 in regular rotation. But that morning I found an article on them in the local paper promoting their show in town that evening and I decided to pair that with an early lunch of cold, leftover fish sticks which grossed me out as I continued reading. Then my mind decided to amp the disgust up a notch by recalling, for some still unknown reason, an incident from a few years earlier in which a classmate lifted his shirt at the lunch table to show us all his numerous spider bites. And O my brothers, yes, I had indeed Clockwork Oranged myself and your faithful narrator could no longer experience the moderate pleasure from the Todd Rundgren-produced single without like a real horror show going off in my head like.
