Cal Ripken, Jr

Updated: Jun 11, 2023

6/8/23

This scorecard is from a game on this day in 1982. Chris Engel and his family brought me along to this game which holds great memories and a special part in MLB history. It was picture night which meant we could go out on the field before the game and get photos of the players. It also is the 1982 Milwaukee Brewers (if you know, you know). And five future hall of famers took the field for this one: Robin Yount, Paul Molitor and Ted Simmons for the Brewers and Eddie Murray and Cal Ripken Jr for the Orioles. Plenty to love about all that even with a Brewers loss. But time would eventually reveal perhaps the greatest highlight and it centers around the Baltimore rookie Cal Ripken Jr. This is just the 8th game of his historic streak of 2,632 consecutive games played which lasted until the end of the 1998 season. This game also featured his very first home run of that streak.

And this night keeps providing treasures. I was compelled to share the scorecard with him today and baseball's Iron Man himself actually gave it some love........

And a link to an easier to read box score:
